MetaTrader Sync is our recommended way to import from MT4 and MT5. It's a small read-only Expert Advisor that uploads your closed trades and your deposits and withdrawals over an encrypted HTTPS connection, every 15 minutes by default. It can never place, change or close an order.
It sends closed trades only, so a position that is still open joins your journal once you close it.
By default it sends the last 90 days of history. To go further back, raise InpHistoryDays in the EA inputs (up to 365), or upload a statement once for the older trades.
Setup takes about five minutes:
- In EquityLog, go to Import and open MetaTrader Sync. Pick your portfolio and platform, then create your sync token. It's shown only once, so copy it straight away.
- In MetaTrader, open Tools > Options > Expert Advisors, tick 'Allow WebRequest for listed URL' and add https://equitylog.app
- Download EquityLogSync for your platform from that same page, copy it into your terminal's Experts folder (File > Open Data Folder), then press F4 to open MetaEditor and F7 to compile it. The .mq4 file has to be compiled in MetaTrader 4's own MetaEditor - MT5's cannot compile it.
- Drag EquityLogSync onto any chart - the symbol and timeframe don't matter. On the Common tab keep 'Allow Algo Trading' (MT5) / 'Allow live trading' (MT4) ticked, paste your token into InpApiToken on the Inputs tab, and click OK. Then check the Algo Trading (MT5) / AutoTrading (MT4) button in the top toolbar is on - the add-on cannot run while it is off, even though it never trades.
The first upload starts within seconds. Leave your terminal running and it keeps itself up to date. Every message it writes in the Experts tab starts with [EquityLog], and 'Sync OK' means your trades are in.
